Port Orleans Beignet Dash Fun Run

For those who run/jog/walk and are staying at the Disney's Port Orleans Resorts, there is a fun little event held every Sunday morning called "The Beignet Dash Fun Run."  It is "Held every Sunday at 8:00am.  Join us on Sunday Runday for a quick dash around the Resort.  Finish your race with a tasty beignet!  Check-in begins at 7:30 at Disney's Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter on the Riverwalk between building 5 and the Doubloon Lagoon Pool.  $15 Plus tax."

Listening to the Castmembers discuss the origin, the event started after they continually saw all of the crazies runners who completed their own version of the WDW Half Marathon after the official event was cancelled in January 2017.  Castmembers were impressed and inspired to see how much some of us enjoy our running at Disney.  They have been having this event every Sunday since the spring of 2017 and have not had to cancel one yet (at the time of writing).


For $15 you get a Race Bib, finisher's medallion, a little goody bag with some unique trinkets, and a certificate for an order of three beignets from Sassagoula Floatworks food court at the French Quarter Resort.
Overall, it was a fun little event and got me up and out of the room to run while on vacation.  That's got to be worth something.  An order of three beignets will cost you $3.99 at the food court, helping to add value.  To redeem, there is a detachable certificate at the bottom of the race bib that you take to the food court within a day of the race.
This is not something that I would consider a must-do event every time, but it was fun to participate.

With Covid-19 in full effect, there are a ton of people that are having Disney withdrawal!  We moved to Florida almost two years ago just so that we wouldn't experience this feeling.  I love irony as much as anyone, but this is borderline cruel :) While I do miss the rides and attactions, that's not the thing that I am really jonesing for.  I want some good food!!!  When we didn't live so close to Disney and wanted to get our theme park food fix, we would look for recipes.  My wife has pretty much perfected the cheese soup from Le Celier!  So I thought this would be a good time to add a recipe for another of our favorites. Using Grocery Delivery Service in your WDW budget

We have had the pleasure of talking with some new visitors to WDW over the past few weeks.  It is so fun for Tabitha and I to do that.  It takes me back to a day when we would order promo DVD's to be delivered to our house and watch them.....Before you ask, the internet did exist and so did YouTube......But it was definitely a time of transition!  Talking with these people, it took us back to some of the budget tips that we have learned over the years.

Dining Review - Chef Art Smith's Homcomin'

Homecomin' is located in Disney Springs and is one of my favorite restaurants on Disney World property.  I've been there a handful of times and have not had a bad meal.  That's not to say that it's always great.  During peak times, I have had meals that were good but not exceptional.  My most recent trip was during lunch on a weekday.  They were at about half-capacity and the meal was outstanding and the service was amazing!  I was on the dining plan, which included a drink and desert.  I knew what entree that I wanted but asked for input from the bartender for the other courses.  I was very happy! The "Old Fashioned Elder" For my entree I selected the signature dish, "Art's Famous Fried Chicken".  This is every bit as good as the Mid-West Potluck fried chicken that I remember from my youth!  The portions are generous and I had leftovers.  My one criticism is that the mashed potatoes are instant.  That's not a horrible
